Russia beats Germany in semi-finals

Russia has advanced to the 2010 IIHF World Championship final, as expected, but it had to work the full 60 minutes in the game against Germany. Pavel Datsyuk and Evgeni Malkin - the last players to join the team - scored for Russia and Vasili Koshechkin made 26 save en route to a 2-1 win.

Anmerkung zum Titel

Der Titel meines Blogs lautet "Kraut in the City". Bei Wikipedia findet sich zu "Kraut" folgende Eintragung:

Der Begriff Kraut ist eine meist stereotypisierende Bezeichnung für die Deutschen, die vor allem während des Zweiten Weltkrieges in England gebräuchlich war. Der Begriff ist wahrscheinlich vom Sauerkraut abgeleitet, das als typisch deutsche Speise angesehen wurde.

Der Stereotyp des deutschen Sauerkrautessers ist jedoch älter als der Zweite Weltkrieg. So beschreibt beispielsweise Jules Verne in seinem 1879 veröffentlichten Roman "Die 500 Millionen der Begum" einen bösen deutschen Industriellen mit einer Vorliebe für Sauerkraut.

Von der Bezeichnung abgeleitet sind Krautland, das gelegentlich als Synonym für Deutschland Verwendung fand, sowie der Ausdruck Krautrock für den deutschen Progressivrock der späten 1960er und 70er Jahre.

Ich mag Sauerkraut sehr gerne und mir gefällt dieser Spitzname deswegen, auch wenn ich in meiner gesamten Zeit in England bisher noch nie so betitelt wurde ☺
